MACHIKOYA, a third place for multi-generational gatherings (space design)
VUILD was in charge of interior design and fixture production for the “MACHIKOYA” project, which started with the concept of a third place for multi-generational gatherings in a station along the Nagoya private railway line. We worked with Mr. Shiroyama, who has been tackling various local issues, to develop the project, and made abundant use of “paper tubes,” waste material from the film manufacturing business, in a design that would become a symbol of the space. While providing minimal functions such as a library space and a kitchen, the space was designed to leave room for activities, aiming to connect people with the town and to be a base for confronting local issues. VUILD was involved in this project based on the concept of creating a “place” together with a shared vision, as a space that can flexibly change to accommodate the diverse activities that will emerge in the future.
