VUILD’s NESTING Renews Its Website and Offers the New “Gassho Model” Cabin-Building Kit to One Lucky Winner

To mark the occasion, we are giving away the “Gassho Model,” an introductory model for building a 3-tsubo (approx. 10 m²) cabin, to one person. Please see the end of this release for how to apply.

*Digital fabrication: Reading data such as 3D CAD files into 3D printers or wood processing machines to create objects. It makes it easy to produce even complex shapes that are difficult to make with conventional manufacturing technologies.

NESTING is a home- and base-building service: you design in a web application, a building kit is manufactured in a factory according to the plan, and on the construction site the homeowner and their friends and companions can easily put up the building themselves.

Under the concept of “design it yourself, build it yourselves,” the first building, a lodging facility, was built in Naoshima, Kagawa in December 2023. With the official release in April 2024, we have been receiving plans and inquiries for a wide range of uses, including lodging facilities, offices, homes with shops, and disaster recovery bases.

The social background is the aging and decline of craftspeople. Particularly on remote islands and in rural areas, despite abundant natural resources and attractive living environments, the hurdle to creating bases for enjoying those environments (such as inns, shops and houses) is extremely high, and this problem has become apparent.

VUILD has also been conveying “the fun and joy of thinking for yourself and making with your own hands” to a wide range of people, from children to adults, based on wood, one of Japan’s proud and abundant resources.

Today we live in a convenient and efficient world where you can get almost anything if you pay for it. On the other hand, precisely because things are so easy to obtain, the source of value is shifting from acquiring things to the experience and process itself.

In response to these social issues and changing consumer values, through the NESTING service we are developing construction methods and kits that use digital fabrication technology, so that people can conceive and build lodging facilities, shops and house-scale buildings themselves.

NESTING has renewed its website and is now offering the following new models and features.

■ Three models suited to different uses and levels of ease of building

In addition to the “Kirizuma” model offered so far, we have added the new “Katanagare” and “Gassho” models. The smallest model, at 3 tsubo (approx. 9.9 m²), is an entry-level model that two adults can complete in three or four days, delivering the joy of making.

With NESTING, homeowners can customize the size, floor plan, finishes and more of their building themselves. With this website renewal, we have published the design application for the Kirizuma Model on the site.

Start by letting your imagination run wild with the design app, and if you would like to consider things in more concrete terms, please contact us through the site.

Even if an option is not available in the app, we can also offer options such as finishes using local materials and off-grid support.

To celebrate the release of the new models and the website renewal, we are recruiting one monitor for the Gassho Model.

We would like to build it together with you and ask for your help in creating a step-by-step manual, and we hope to share the joy of making together.
