Digital Home-Building Platform “NESTING” Officially Launches

VUILD Inc. has officially launched its digital home-building platform “NESTING” and begun accepting orders.

NESTING is a home-building service that makes it possible to create a freely designed custom home, unbound by the conventional LDK layout, with the ease of a ready-made home. Following the announcement of the concept in May 2021 and the completion of a prototype in November of the same year, we have released three new customizable templates and are officially opening orders. Using digital technology, NESTING offers a quick and easy experience of creating a comfortable home filled with what each person envisions, seamlessly from design to completion.

Background to the launch
For many people, a home is the biggest purchase of their lives, yet the choices are very limited. There is little to choose from besides ready-made homes, where you have to give something up, and custom homes, which let you have it your way but cost time and money. On top of that, there is a mountain of things to consider, such as where to live, how much space you need, and what layout would be best. We want to free many people from all the “hassles” associated with the home. We want to create homes in which people can fully enjoy “living their own way,” which is becoming more diverse as society changes, and to become a base (a “nest”) that supports each person’s unique lifestyle. NESTING was born from these aspirations, leading to this launch.

Four features of NESTING
NESTING has four main features. By delivering all of them in one seamless process, it makes possible a comfortable home that is kind both to nature and to you.

1. Design
We offer three templates that inherit the philosophy of traditional Japanese folk houses. All are open designs rooted in the local climate and landscape, creating comfortable spaces.

2. Ecology
By processing local timber locally, we keep CO2 emissions during construction to an absolute minimum. We also improve the airtightness and insulation of the house, achieving both comfortable living and reduced environmental impact.

3. Customize
You can build out an open, column-free large space in every detail. Free from the LDK convention, the layout can be changed freely as your lifestyle changes, and can even be returned to one large space.

4. Technology
Through end-to-end digitalization with digital design and digital fabrication, a custom home, which used to take a great deal of time and money, can be realized with the speed of buying a ready-made home.

Three NESTING templates
NESTING offers three housing templates in different sizes. Each of the three templates is based on an open, column-free space, and you can edit it freely in the app while checking the estimate.
This makes it possible to build a home unbound by LDK, whose layout can be changed freely as your lifestyle changes (*layout changes are offered only to those who contact us).

[S model]
A compact cabin with a loft, like a hotel room. Use it as your own weekend home for unwinding, or as a shared house with friends. This entry model lets you freely build out a minimal space, for example by customizing the wet area into a sauna.

[M model]
A single-story house with a detached annex, whose large space can be customized freely. Picture a dining table surrounded by friends, a studio where you can immerse yourself in work, and a wooden deck where you can stretch out. This single-story model brings living and working together.

[L model]
A two-story house with a sense of openness under a large atrium. Beyond family living, it is a two-story, open large-space model where you can host concerts or gather with friends, living free from the constraints of a floor plan.

Finding land and building homes through our regional network
Since its founding in 2017, VUILD, the company that operates NESTING, has installed the 3D wood-processing machine “ShopBot” in regions across Japan rich in forest resources. ShopBot is now installed in more than 100 locations, creating an environment where timber can be processed digitally in any region as long as there is data. Using this autonomous, distributed production network, we will promote the local use of local timber.

We also hear that in typical home-building, many people stumble because they cannot find good land. Leveraging the strength of the nationwide network we have built, NESTING can provide off-market land information.
