Overview

A waterside tea room that seems to have swum down from the moon
A tea room, Eigetsuan, designed and built for the Ritsurin Grand Tea Ceremony at Ritsurin Garden under the supervision of architect Yuko Nagayama. Ritsurin Garden is notable for its views from the water as well as from land. Based on records of boats once circling the ponds, the project aimed to recreate that scene. The design took into account the formality of the garden, which was frequented by successive lords of the Takamatsu Matsudaira family.
