Hidden landscapes, breathtaking views: a space to find your balance

宮崎県椎葉村は、標高1,000mを超える九州山地に囲まれ、村の96%を森林が占める。杉の蓄積量は日本有数とされるが、その大半は村内で活用されていない。地域材の活用を目的にサウナデザインコンペを企画・運営し、デジタルファブリケーションを用いて地域材によるサウナを完成させた。

Hidden landscapes, breathtaking views: a space to find your balance

Shiiba Village in Miyazaki is surrounded by Kyushu mountains over 1,000 m high, with forests covering 96% of its area. Its cedar stock is said to be among the largest in Japan, yet most of it is not used within the village. To promote the use of local timber, VUILD planned and ran a sauna design competition and completed saunas made of local timber using digital fabrication.

応募作品から優秀賞2作品を選定し、実制作に向けた設計をサポートした。加工には、村の交流拠点施設「Katerie」に導入されているShopBotを使用した。

優秀賞は「提灯サウナ」（SUGI architects〈杉拓磨〉＋内田陽介）と「寄り添い壁」（KOS〈石黒＋牧村〉＋ZKI＋TI）の2作品で、実施設計・施工はVUILD PlaceLabが担当した。

Two award-winning entries were selected, and their design was supported through to construction. Fabrication used the ShopBot installed at Katerie, the village’s community hub.

The two winning entries were the Lantern Sauna (SUGI architects [Takuma Sugi] + Yosuke Uchida) and the Leaning Wall (KOS [Ishiguro + Makimura] + ZKI + TI), with detailed design and construction by VUILD PlaceLab.
