A special website bringing together nine regenerative approaches is now live.

VUILD Inc. (Headquarters: Atsugi, Kanagawa; CEO: Koki Akiyoshi) has expanded its regenerative spatial design initiative, which covers everything from planning and design to construction, and launched a special website.

Background: an era of soaring material costs and labor shortages
In recent years, the architecture and interior industries have faced ongoing changes that shake the assumptions of conventional making, including rising raw material prices, higher logistics costs and a worsening shortage of skilled craftspeople. These changes are not temporary; the conventional supply structure built on mass production and mass distribution is itself reaching a turning point.
Since its founding, VUILD has used digital fabrication to put into practice new ways of making that the coming era calls for, such as using local resources, participatory construction processes and spatial design premised on disassembly and relocation.
Specifically:
・Instead of waiting for building materials that may not arrive, drawing out the potential of resources close at hand.
・Assuming worsening labor shortages, designing systems that let users and communities take part in making spaces.
・Instead of interiors that are demolished and discarded within a few years, designing spaces as assets meant to be relocated and reused.
We have treated these constraints not simply as problems, but as conditions for new creativity. This website was created to organize the knowledge and methods developed through our practice, and to widely share the kind of spatial design the coming era requires.
Nine regenerative design approaches in VUILD's spatial design
The website introduces the thinking and approaches behind VUILD’s spatial design, from circular spaces that use local resources, community-participatory process design and spaces designed for relocation and reuse, to our own methods using digital fabrication and distributed manufacturing networks. A document describing the nine approaches in more detail can also be downloaded from the site.

About the special website
The website introduces:
・VUILD’s approach to regenerative design
・Examples of spaces such as offices, shops, showrooms and co-creation facilities
・How projects are carried out
・Our unique structure spanning design, fabrication and construction
As the environment surrounding making changes dramatically, with soaring material costs and labor shortages, VUILD will continue to propose new possibilities for spatial design for the coming era through its unique approach spanning design, fabrication and construction.
